The house duo Soulsearcher earned its lasting renown through the international club favorite “Can’t Get Enough.” Vocalist Thea Austin and producer Marc Pomeroy, both longtime fixtures in dance music, formed the project. Pittsburgh-born Austin began as a staff writer at the trade publication The R&B Report before moving into performance; in 1991 she linked with German producers Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti in Snap!, co-writing and supplying lead vocals on their global hit “Rhythm Is a Dancer.” Florida-born Pomeroy first attracted attention that year as a producer for Nile Rodgers’ Ear Candy imprint, later remixing material for Busta Rhymes, Loleatta Holloway, and Tony! Toni! Toné! before starting his own Soulfuric Recordings label. In 1999 Pomeroy and Austin united as Soulsearcher, building “Can’t Get Enough” on samples from Gary’s Gang’s 1979 single “Let’s Lovedance Tonight”; the track became a U.K. Top Ten pop hit, and that summer the duo performed at Prince Charles’ all-star Prince’s Trust Party in the Park concert in London. Their follow-up, “Do It to Me Again,” reached number 13 in Britain in 2000, after which the pair separated; Austin scored another major club success in 2001 with Pusaka’s “You’re the Worst Thing for Me,” while Pomeroy formed Jazz-N-Groove Productions with Brian Tappert.
