The British organization Soul Survivor operates less as a conventional band and more as an expansive brand that coordinates Christian music festivals tailored for younger audiences. What began modestly has expanded into a major international enterprise hosting yearly gatherings across seven countries, complemented by multiple workshops, outreach initiatives, and a steady output of recordings issued through its proprietary label.

Its origins trace to 1993, when the annual New Wine Christian family conference in Somerset, England, had grown sufficiently large for organizers to establish a dedicated youth event. Church leader Mike Pilavachi and Matt Redman, then a participant in his youth group, conceived the concept. Redman guided worship during the initial gatherings and later emerged as one of Britain’s most celebrated CCM artists. The 1993 edition functioned primarily as a conference, whereas the full festival format commenced in 1995 with roughly 2,000 attendees. By the mid-2010s, participation at Soul Survivor events, which had reached locations including Australia and the Netherlands, approached 35,000 people each year. In 2004 the Momentum spin-off was introduced for attendees in their twenties who had aged beyond the primary teen-focused festival, while the original family-oriented New Wine gathering persisted.

Survivor Records appeared in 1997. Though founded to document live worship performances captured at Soul Survivor events, the label subsequently issued projects by leading U.K. CCM figures such as Vicky Beeching, One Hundred Hours, Phatfish, YFriday, and Matt Redman. Each festival assembled a temporary house band, with worship direction provided by artists including Beth Croft, Tim Hughes, and Rend Collective. Many of these musicians, listed as featured performers on the resulting recordings, achieved substantial independent success.
