Biography
Philadelphia wizards Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff supplied one of their earliest notable productions when the Soul Survivors scored their lone major success with "Expressway to Your Heart" in 1967. Though the musicians were white, the band forged a credible R&B approach on its initial Crimson releases. The producers packed the track with blaring horns and assorted automotive effects, yet its real force resided in the impassioned vocals and driving rhythm. After the weaker follow-up "Explosion in Your Soul," the group slipped from view before resurfacing with another hit during 1974.
