Biography
Spacecraft came together in 1996 as an improvisational space music trio after keyboardist/guitarist/artist Tony Gerber and keyboardist/composer John Rose drew creative stimulus from image and sound mappings tied to the space shuttle Voyager. Applying those mappings, the pair generated fresh synthesizer tones and brought in vocalist/keyboardist Diane Timmons to finalize the undertaking. Their self-titled debut appeared in 1997 on the Lektronic Soundscapes label, which operates out of Nashville, TN. The follow-up, Hummel:Live, surfaced in 1998 and captured a live performance inside Kentucky's Hummel Planetarium, while Earthtime Tapestry arrived the year after. Outside their Spacecraft commitments, the three members maintain separate electronic, musical, and artistic endeavors, with Gerber running a multimedia art gallery and issuing solo recordings, Rose composing and performing on his own, and Timmons serving as a session vocalist. The ensemble favors architecturally distinctive settings such as planetariums and historic churches for its concerts and continues to issue experimental new age albums in the intervals between tours.
