Biography
Formed during their high school years, Spdfgh—pronounced “spuh-duh-fuh-guh-huh”—devoted themselves to composing straightforward pop songs instead of joining school pep rallies. The all-girl quartet cut their debut single, “Nighttime”/“Colour In”/“Sweet,” on a shoestring budget with duct-taped instruments, and Dirt Records issued the release in 1994. Influenced by the Cannanes, the Pastels, and Mudhoney, Spdfgh sustained their partnership with the label, which produced the 1995 EP Grassroots and the full-length Leave Me Like This two years later.
