Speak Onion

Dan Abatemarco operates under the name Speak Onion as a Queens, New York electronic musician whose severe and turbulent productions he labels "drum'n'noise." The resulting tracks fuse electronic feedback with fragmented breakbeats to form a dense, turbulent sonic mass shaped by industrial traditions alongside experimental sound design. Long embedded in New York’s breakcore community, he launched performances at bars and intimate venues throughout the mid-2000s alongside figures such as Edgey and Enduser. In April 2009 Abatemarco joined musician David B. Applegate to launch Immigrant Breast Nest, an imprint centered on underground electronic material with priority given to aggressive experimental textures. Speak Onion’s charged live appearances later attracted coverage from The Village Voice, which ran a profile of the artist in early 2010. Subsequent to multiple gratis, independently issued recordings, he delivered his first official album, Unanswered, through Ohm Resistance in 2016.
