Biography
Pete Nolan, a Brooklyn resident, had already been crafting dreamy lo-fi material under the Spectre Folk name before joining Elisa Ambrogio and Leah Quimby in 2001 to launch the Magik Markers. Only after drummer Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth and guitarist Peter Meehan from the Grey Lady joined his touring lineup did the wandering home recordings begin to gain definition. Beyond an abundance of small-run issues on cassettes, CD-Rs, and vinyl—including the 2007 Woodsist full-length The Blackest Medicine—Spectre Folk delivered Compass, Blanket, Lantern, Mojo via Arbitrary Signs in 2009 and scheduled the next Woodsist EP, The Blackest Medicine, Vol. 2, for release in 2011.
