Spencer Day, a pianist, vocalist, and composer whose supple phrasing fuses classic jazz, pop, and soul, has earned stylistic parallels ranging from Harry Connick, Jr. to Jamie Cullum. After placing as a finalist in the Adult Singer division of television’s Star Search, he issued his first recording, Introducing Spencer Day, in 2004. The 2009 Concord Jazz release Vagabond carried him onto the Billboard lists, climbing to number seven on the Contemporary Jazz Albums chart and number 11 on the broader Jazz Albums tally; two years later, The Mystery of You advanced to number six on the contemporary jazz ranking and number 13 overall. His sixth studio album, 2022’s Broadway by Day, arrived via Club 44 Records and recast Broadway material across swing and Latin arrangements, with guest appearances by Jane Monheit and Dave Koz.

Born in Utah and raised in Arizona by his mother, a seasoned music educator and lyric soprano, Day absorbed the catalog of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Joni Mitchell, and Paul Simon during his formative years. In his mid-twenties he advanced through Star Search to the finals. After settling in Los Angeles he placed his debut, Introducing Spencer Day, with the High Fidelity imprint. The 2005 EP Movie of Your Life preceded Vagabond, his first Concord Jazz effort and commercial breakthrough. The independently released Day Break followed in 2014, reaching number 11 on the Contemporary Jazz Albums chart and number 20 on the Jazz Albums chart while pairing 1960s pop standards with five new compositions. Crowd-funded Angel City, recorded with the Budman/Levy Orchestra, surfaced in 2018; its opening track, “72 and Sunny,” entered the Top 30 of Billboard’s Adult Contemporary survey.
