Biography
Southend-on-Sea’s Spider & the Flies emerged as the distorted analog-synth project of the Horrors keyboardist Spider Webb and bassist Tomethy Furse. Drawing from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop’s pioneering electronic work alongside propulsive figures such as Juan Atkins, the pair crafted science fiction-tinged instrumentals like “Metallurge” and “Desmond Leslie.” Those pieces appeared on a limited-edition 7" issued by Mute Records’ boutique imprint Mute Irregulars in fall 2007. Webb and Furse additionally supplied a remix of Radiohead’s “Reckoner.” The duo then joined forces with Add N to (X)’s Barry 7 to complete their debut mini-album, Something Clockwork This Way Comes, which surfaced early in 2009.
