Biography
It was in Helsinki that Juha Tuukkanen and Terhi Koivisto first crossed paths, with conversations revolving entirely around music from the outset. Long devoted to electronica, Juha contrasted with Terhi, whose tastes leaned toward the organic textures her mother had often played at home. Those divergent preferences prompted the pair to launch Spyritual. Their output occupied a space bracketed by Moloko, Smoke City, Tortoise, and the Cinematic Orchestra, Terhi’s ethereal vocals floating across Juha’s densely layered soundscapes. Kitty-Yo delivered the initial public introduction to the project in 2005 by issuing the duo’s debut album, Wall of Soul.
