Biography
Formed via a partnership between the comedy duo Ninja Sex Party—created by Leigh Daniel Avidan and Brian Wecht—and animator plus producer Egoraptor (Arin Hanson), Starbomb unites the pair of humorous acts to produce nerdy synth-pop alongside parody material. The project delivers R-rated tracks focused on video games including Super Mario Brothers, Mega Man, and Sonic the Hedgehog, generating a frantic combination of nostalgia and comedy intended to comically dismantle the innocent surface tied to these classic figures. Starbomb released scattered song previews across 2013 ahead of its self-titled debut album later that year, which reached the Billboard 200 while leading both the Billboard Comedy and Heatseekers charts. Player Select followed the next year, sustaining the prior approach by weaving Mortal Kombat, Pokemon, Metal Gear Solid, and Minecraft into the lineup. The collection placed inside the top four across three Billboard charts and delivered Starbomb's second consecutive number one on the Comedy list. The crew stayed away until 2019, when the genre-spanning third LP The TryForce appeared and targeted Donkey Kong, Kingdom Hearts, Tetris, and Dark Souls. Moving beyond the side charts, TryForce debuted on the Billboard 200 just outside the Top 20.
