Biography
Stephan Smith entered the world in Virginia as an urban folkie and drew initial notice through regular weekly sets at the Living Room club on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. During 1997 he cut the protest track “The Ballad of Abner Louima,” which denounced police brutality and included a guest vocal from Patti Smith. Mid-1997 also brought the arrival of his debut full-length album, Now’s the Time.
