Born Edward Alban Jean-Pierre Bedford, Steve Aldo displayed the vocal range and conviction that might have placed him in the company of Steve Marriott, judging from the evidence of his single "Baby What You Want Me to Do." Liverpool groups sought him out throughout the 1960s, long after prospects for a recording career had faded, because his abilities met the era’s standards without compromise. His résumé already included stints in several Mersey-side outfits—Howie Casey & the Seniors, Kingsize Taylor & the Dominoes, the Challengers, the Noctunes, the Krew, and the Griff Parry Five. On the Big Joe Williams blues standard he produced a distinctive, arresting interpretation, marked by bold, convincingly mournful shouted passages set against a restrained backing. He ultimately made scant impression on the record industry, moving instead through the ranks of the Fairies and the Fix—a Liverpool ensemble strongly shaped by Stax/Volt, which some accounts place former Searchers drummer Chris Curtis inside—before withdrawing from pop music and taking his exceptional voice with him.
