Steve Buckingham, a producer recognized with a Grammy, initiated his musical path by performing beach music throughout Virginia and the Carolinas. He progressed from there into session musician duties centered in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Muscle Shoals, AL. That background encouraged him to experiment with production, yielding his 1978 contribution to Alicia Bridges’ chart-topping single “I Love the Nightlife.” After settling in Nashville, he occupied the vice presidency of A&R at Columbia Records for ten years, then departed to assume the senior vice presidency at Vanguard and Sugar Hill Records. His stature nevertheless rests on production accomplishments; through collaborations with Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, the Chieftains, Ricky Skaggs, Shania Twain, Loretta Lynn, Kirk Whalum, Martin Taylor, and additional artists, Buckingham has secured Top Ten entries across numerous formats, among them pop, country, R&B, jazz, adult contemporary, Americana, bluegrass, Christian, Hispanic, Triple A, and dance.
