Biography
Long before gaining fame as the companion to the clever blue canine on Blue's Clues, singer/songwriter Steve Burns grew up immersed in punk rock. A toy guitar fashioned by his father during childhood sparked an early fascination with music, which he pursued alongside acting lessons at a neighborhood theater. By 1995 he had secured an audition for a Nickelodeon Nick Jr. program aimed at young viewers. Following six years on the series and multiple accompanying music releases, he sought fresh direction through college studies and original songwriting. An unexpected introduction to producer Dave Fridmann, known for work with Mogwai and Luna, sparked a 2002 partnership with Flaming Lips drummer Steve Drozd. Together the three shaped Burns's distinctive indie rock approach, resulting in the album Songs for Dustmites, issued by PIAS America during summer 2003.
