Biography
Among the most accomplished tunesmiths in America stands Steve Dorff, a three-time Grammy nominee and five-time Emmy nominee whose catalog encompasses more than twenty Top Ten country and pop singles along with nine chart-topping film compositions. Serving as music supervisor on George Strait’s 1992 feature Pure Country, whose soundtrack yielded the number-one singles “Heartland” and “I Cross My Heart,” Dorff has maintained an enduring presence on the charts. Number-one hits written by him have been recorded by Eddie Rabbitt with “Every Which Way But Loose,” Kenny Rogers with “Through the Years,” Mel Tillis with “Coca Cola Cowboy,” Clay Walker with “Hypnotize the Moon,” Anne Murray with “I Just Fall in Love Again,” and Ronnie Milsap with “Cowboys and Clowns.” Additional renditions of his material have come from Barbra Steisand, Glen Campbell, Melissa Manchester, Karen Carpenter, Roy Rogers, Whitney Houston, and Vanessa Williams. He has composed scores for the films Tin Cup, Michael, Blast from the Past, and Dudley Do-Right, as well as for the television series Murphy Brown, Murder She Wrote, Growing Pains, Alien Nation, Major Dad, My Sister Sam, and Spencer for Hire. His sons carry the family tradition forward: Stephen as an actor and Andrew as a musician whose debut album Hint of Mess appeared in August 1997.
