Emerging initially as a solo performer on Pye Records, British guitarist Steven Hammond featured on the anthology Quick Before They Catch Us: The Pop Era Vol. 1. Session work followed on Johnny Almond’s 1969 Deram Records release Music Machine Patent Pending, where he performed alongside Zoot Money and fellow musicians. He next moved through the lineup of Noel Redding’s Fat Mattress, thereby serving in a successor capacity to Jimi Hendrix within Redding’s career trajectory, before joining the Hill—an affiliation that secured his place on Chris Farlowe’s 1970 album From Here To Mama Rosa. He also appeared on the Introvert album by guitarist and singer Jonathan Swift. His most consequential 1970s engagement, however, came as a member of Mick Farren & The Deviants, after which he contributed to Farren’s first solo album. Hammond died in 1992.
