Biography
Emerging among the skilled vibraphonists of the late 1980s, Steve Hobbs developed a bop-rooted approach that stands out for its originality. His training took place at Berklee, the University of Miami, and the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, followed by six years of freelance work in Denver alongside musicians including Tom Harrell, Joe Bonner, Spike Robinson, and Stix Hooper. Returning to Raleigh, Hobbs balances his role as an educator with a consistent schedule of live performances. As a bandleader, he has issued recordings on the Cexton, Timeless, and Candid labels.
