Biography
Steve Laury first gained recognition as the founding guitarist of Fattburger, where his playing revealed an unusually broad and forceful approach to the instrument. Blues guitarists shaped his initial direction, after which Wes Montgomery became a primary influence; although he began playing at age eleven, he treated the instrument casually until reaching eighteen. Several years afterward he relocated to San Diego, where encounters with Carl Evans and Mark Hunter led directly to the formation of Fattburger. He stayed with the ensemble for more than five years before beginning a solo career in the early 1990s. His debut album, Stepping Out, inaugurated a series of Denon releases that balanced mainstream appeal with measured exploratory tendencies. Having overcome significant health challenges, Laury retains the prospect of a notable career ahead.
