Biography
Stir Fried emerged as an alternative and indie rock ensemble from the creative drive of singer, songwriter, and guitarist Johnny Markowski. Growing up as the child of country-folk singer Thomas Jefferson Kaye, Markowski cultivated a deep engagement with music from childhood onward. He and the group have sustained an active recording presence since the early 1990s. Their first official album appeared as a self-titled release in 1996, followed two years later by the critically acclaimed Electrified. Under the Falbo Records imprint, Stir Fried includes Markowski together with vocalist Joanne Lediger, guitarist Jan London, percussionist Vincent Lorenzo, drummer Jimi Blackford, and bassist Rawn Randall. Blue Diamond Miners, the band’s third studio album, arrived in fall 2000 and featured contributions from guest artists such as pedal steel guitarist Buddy Cage (Bob Dylan), pianist Jo Jo Hermann (Widespread Panic), banjoist Tony Trischka (Béla Fleck), Dr. John, and organ player Bernie Worrell (Talking Heads).
