In the early 1970s the husband-and-wife duo Stone et Charden ranked among France’s leading acts, later emerging as a staple of the nostalgia circuit. Eric Charden, widely recognized for composing material for Sylvie Vartan and Johnny Hallyday, encountered Parisian chanteuse Annie Gautrat in 1966 while serving on the jury of the Miss Beatnik competition she won. The couple married that same year and, beginning in 1971, combined their efforts to release four number-one singles before disbanding and divorcing. They re-formed in the late ’90s to headline the Âge Tendre et Têtes de Bois tour, yet soon after Charden received the Légion d’Honneur and the duo issued the comeback covers album Made in France, he died of cancer in 2012.
