Biography
Welsh dream pop outfit Strata Florida came together in 2012, built around the home recordings of vocalist Louise Trehy. Trehy had first gained recognition in the early '90s as half of the shoegaze/dream pop duo Swallow, a group that folded in 1994 after issuing its sole album on the influential British imprint 4AD. In the aftermath of that split she withdrew to rural Wales and stepped away from music entirely, only to rediscover her drive toward the end of the 2000s during a period spent performing with a local alternative choir. Once she had taught herself guitar, Trehy started composing material and capturing it on a borrowed four-track machine. In 2012 she brought bassist Peter Pavli aboard as collaborator, and the pair set about shaping the tracks that would form their inaugural full-length. Taking their name from a 12th-century Welsh Cistercian abbey, Strata Florida inked a deal with the American label Saint Marie Records and issued their debut album, Made of Stars, in early 2014.
