Greg McConnell assembled the band in the final years of the 1990s. They played shows across the Toronto region, delivering both straight-ahead country standards and unconventional adaptations such as the Moody Blues’ “Nights in White Satin” rendered in country style. Upon the arrival of their debut album, Turbines for Speed, in 1999, McConnell died in his sleep during a camping trip. The remaining members chose to continue rather than disband and returned to the studio for a follow-up recording. Drawing on musicians tied to Ron Sexsmith, the Supers, and Blue Rodeo, among others, the group issued In Search of the Seven Foot Woman in March 2002. Anchored in traditional country yet distinguished by its warm, accumulating vocal harmonies, the band has also appeared at Canadian Music Week and the North By North East Festival.
