Among the foremost vocalists in Greek music throughout the twentieth century stood Stratos Payioumtzis. Following his relocation from Asia Minor's Aibali to Greece in 1919, he initiated his professional endeavors and quickly earned acclaim from the nation's premier songwriters. Beyond rendering compositions by his enduring companion Markos Bambakris, he lent an empathetic interpretation to works from George Batis, Anestos Delias, Markos, Vasilis Tsitsanis, Papaioanou, Keromitis, Mpagianteras, Tountas, and Papazoglou.
