Assembled in New Jersey, Strutt operated as a disco-funk ensemble that secured a short-term contract with the Brunswick imprint. The roster featured guitarist Carmen Cosentino, keyboardist Frank Portolano, woodwind player Jim Mecke, trombonist Joe Escobar, bassist Edward Walker, drummer Roger Zumbo, baritone Ronald Jones, and tenor Dickie Harman. Under the direction of pianist and producer Benny Clark, the band committed to tape its sole long-player, Time Moves On, during 1975. Club DJs spun “Funky Sign” alongside the album’s title cut and the flip side “Front Row Romeo,” yet the collective issued no further material. Two singles that later appeared under the Strutt name in 1984 were in fact the work of Sly, Slick & Wicked.
