Biography
Suggested Friends emerged from London's underground scene toward the end of the 2010s by fusing melodic indie pop sweetness with punk defiance and '90s fuzz textures. Firmly anchored in queer identity while maintaining an understated mix of humor and warmth, the band cultivated a devoted following through its self-titled 2017 debut and the 2019 album Turtle Taxi.
Faith Taylor on vocals and guitar joined forces with drummer Christabel Williams in 2015 to launch the project, soon adding guitarist Jack McGinn and bassist Emma Kupa. Right away the group adopted the values of both queer circles and the D.I.Y. punk community, shaping a playful, eccentric, and inviting sonic identity. Several independently issued singles paved the way for the full-length debut, released that same year on the Welsh indie label Odd Box Records.
After completing multiple U.K. tours, Suggested Friends crossed the Atlantic for the first time in 2018 to appear at Athens Popfest in Georgia, an experience that preceded their signing to Fika Recordings. The second album, Turtle Taxi, surfaced in October 2019 and delivered a denser sonic palette marked by expansive harmonic choruses, keyboard accents, and greater structural variety.
