Born in San Jose, California, in 2003 to a family of Mexican descent, Suigeneris grew up surrounded by music because his father, uncles, and cousins all played instruments. Drawn to the same path, he drew early influence from 2Pac, his father’s favorite artist, as well as Migos, Future, Young Thug, reggae, and rock, eventually choosing the stage name Suigeneris from the Latin expression meaning “of its own kind, unique.”

The Bay Area rapper first gained notice in 2017 at age fourteen when the self-produced single “Pull Up” went viral. The sight of a youngster resembling Kris Kross boasting about foreign cars, women, money, and drugs struck listeners as incongruous, yet the track’s polished sound suggested greater longevity than a typical novelty. In 2018 he delivered on that promise with the breakout collaboration “Now” featuring Lil Skies, which quickly amassed millions of streams. That same year he signed with Empire Distribution and issued his debut album, The Cheat Code, while adopting a signature two-tone red-and-black hairstyle.

Two further projects arrived in quick succession: Suinami in 2019, led by the single “Lucifer,” and Demons ’n’ Angels in 2020, which included “Brown Justin Bieber.” Across these three albums released within three years, Suigeneris’s melodic trap style, crafted entirely in his bedroom, grew increasingly refined as his production sharpened and his flow matured.
