Summer Flake

Stephanie Crase, the singer, songwriter, and guitarist based in Melbourne, Australia, channels a grungy aesthetic heavy on reverb that calls to mind Sonic Youth through her solo project Summer Flake. Originally from Adelaide, she explored painting and film during her college years before taking on the Summer Flake name and circulating her self-written home recordings. Sad Sax Records issued her first Summer Flake EP in 2012. The follow-up EP Where Do I Go? arrived the next year on Heavy Lows Records, with her debut full-length You Can Have It All appearing later in 2013 via Rice Is Nice. She also stayed active in the Ellen Carey-led group Fair Maiden, whose sound drew partly from sunny '60s pop, and she belonged to the official lineup that delivered the band's self-titled debut in 2014. Another Summer Flake EP, Time Rolls By, surfaced in 2015 and contained her clanging cover of the Rolling Stones' "Some Things Just Stick in Your Mind." Geoffrey O'Connor handled production duties on her second LP, Hello Friends, which likewise came out on Rice Is Nice in 2016.
