Biography
SunYears originated as a vehicle for Peter Morén of Peter Bjorn and John, channeling the legacies of early rock, introspective folk-rock, and melodic psychedelic pop. The project's first full-length effort, the collaborative Come Fetch My Soul!, surfaced in 2023 and included joint performances with notable figures such as Ron Sexsmith and Kathryn Williams.
Peter Bjorn and John's ninth studio album, Endless Dream, reached listeners in March 2020 just as COVID-19 restrictions took hold worldwide, resulting in the cancellation of its accompanying U.S. tour. With live performances halted, Morén turned toward solitary guitar practice alongside joint music-making. His contributions appeared on James Yorkston's The Wide Wide River in 2021, and performances alongside Robert Forster of the Go-Betweens further motivated him to pursue additional partnerships.
SunYears, whose name nods to Memphis's historic Sun Records as well as the flow of years, blends solo pieces with shared endeavors. Several tracks ultimately featured on the debut had originated with Morén as far back as 2016. He later invited Ron Sexsmith, Jess Williamson, Kathryn Williams, and Eric D. Johnson of Fruit Bats to Stockholm, where they supplied vocals and input that shaped multiple duets. The finished Come Fetch My Soul! appeared via Yep Roc in June 2023.
