Biography
Super Diamono dominated Senegal’s politically conscious circles for nearly two decades. Defying the entrenched custom of praise-singing, the ensemble created their signature mbalax, a rock variant steeped in blues and jazz inflections. Their songs confronted volatile subjects including apartheid, polygamy, and human-rights violations with unflinching directness. Following their 1991 dissolution, the collective later reformed in a modestly altered configuration led by vocalist Omar Pene.
