Biography
Super Mr. Marvelous, a one-time associate of New Kids on the Block, squeezed a single rap release into the mid-1990s before stepping away from the business. Friend and producer Donnie Wahlberg may or may not have steered his path, yet once the pair connected, Wahlberg grew eager to helm Marvelous’s debut, possibly as a way to distance himself from the poor reception that greeted the New Kids’ Face the Music. Together they assembled Pho-Net-Ic, a bass-heavy set issued in fall 1996. Although “Drop the Top” scored modest club play, the album flopped and Marvelous quickly faded from view. Several years later another New Kid, Joe McIntyre, reached out and asked Marvelous to lay down a rap for the track “We Can Get Down.” The two cut the song during summer 1999; it appeared on McIntyre’s Stay the Same album, after which Marvelous issued no further recordings and left the music industry behind.
