Biography
A vibrant Australian glam-punk outfit took shape in 1974 when British émigrés Gary Twinn and siblings Chris and Joe Burnham came together as Supernaut. The group stormed the charts in 1976 when its single “I Like It Both Ways” climbed to number five on the domestic Australian survey. Frequent appearances on the era’s leading television showcases Countdown and Bandstand cemented their status as mid-decade regulars. Their self-titled Polydor debut album reached the top position and earned double-gold certification, yet subsequent singles—including a charting rendition of the Rolling Stones’ “Let’s Spend the Night Together”—never restored the momentum of that breakthrough year. After parting with Polydor in 1978, the band signed with Wizard Records, shed much of its glitter aesthetic, and leaned harder into punk with a second self-titled release issued under the name the Nauts before calling it quits the next year.
