In 1997, Cristián Heyne—a Chilean journalist who had earlier produced records for Christianes, Shogun, and Venus—crossed paths with Koko Stambuk of the Latin pop band Glup!, who grew up in the southern city of Osorno. Drawn to the rising wave of teen pop then dominating airwaves, the pair launched the production outfit Packman. Having first gained notice guiding the Chilean teen sensation Stereo 3, Packman next formed the girl group Supernova. Its original lineup featured Cony Lewis, Elisa Montes, and Chica Edwards (aka Chi-K), yet the trio split after scoring local-chart success with “Maldito Amor.” Replacing them were newcomers Koni (born Constanza Lüer), Claudia (born Claudia González), and Sabina (born Sabina Odone), who made their bow on the Latin Grammy-nominated album Retráctate.
