Biography
Susan Carol weaves introspective lyricism with a profound gospel foundation into layered, emotionally resonant modern R&B. The Texas-born artist first surfaced in 2016 via her independently helmed full-length Alchemy, then steadily built momentum at the decade’s close through solo releases and partnerships with figures such as Full Crate and PJ Morton. Her profile surged in 2023 when she supplied the lead vocal on Morton’s Grammy-winning “Good Morning,” prompting a Def Jam recording agreement. The label introduced her in 2024 with “Karma,” an unflinching post-breakup ballad whose retro-styled arrangement was crafted by Harmony Samuels.
Raised in Fort Worth, Susan Carol Lewis began singing alongside relatives at the local church pastored by her father. After earning a degree from Texas A&M, she relocated to Houston to focus on music full-time. Working without formal production training, she assembled and issued her debut album Alchemy, a sophisticated contemporary R&B collection, in 2016. A period of reduced activity followed until she resurfaced in 2019 with the single “Ride.” Netherlands-based producer Full Crate then recruited her to co-write and perform on the tracks “Magnetic” and “Good to U.” In 2021 she offered Organic, a four-track EP of unadorned guitar-and-voice recordings. Two additional standalone singles appeared in 2022. The following year brought her featured appearance on PJ Morton’s “Good Morning,” which earned Best Traditional R&B Performance honors at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. She subsequently joined the Def Jam roster and, in April 2024, delivered her first release for the imprint—“Karma”—a composition developed with Ant Clemons, Nikki Grier, Varren Wade, and Harmony Samuels.
