Biography
Nigerian musician Suté moves fluidly across R&B, hip-hop, Afro-fusion, soul, and reggae, establishing a distinctive presence within Lagos’s expanding music community. As a member of the Bantu Collective, he issued a succession of singles and mixtapes throughout the mid-2010s that culminated in the 2019 release of his debut album, Paradise.
Suté Iwar entered the world in Makurdi, where his inventive and supportive household provided early classical training for him and his brothers Tay and Terna, while the home soundtrack leaned toward soul, jazz, R&B, and reggae. Though each brother followed an independent artistic path, they joined forces with fellow creators to form the mutually reinforcing Bantu Collective. Suté first appeared in 2014 with the Jeli mixtape, which demonstrated his command of rap, jazz, R&B, and soul elements. The following year brought Visions, a mixtape that included a collaboration with Tay Iwar and further highlighted Suté’s abilities as both performer and producer. He sustained this momentum through the Bethesda EP in 2016 and the Jericho Rose EP in 2017, before unveiling his first full-length project, Paradise, in 2019.
