SWA

SWA emerged in 1985 by merging the punk energy from SST Records acts like Black Flag and Minutemen with the heavy sludge of 1970s hard rock. Fronted by Chuck Dukowski, who previously played bass in Black Flag, alongside singer Merrill Ward, the band issued their debut album Your Future (If You Have One) that year. Sex Dr. came out the next year, followed by the addition of guitarist Sylvia Juncosa, who had ties to To Damascus. In 1987, they put out XCIII, and Evolution 85-87 later compiled their initial three releases. Shortly thereafter, Juncosa departed to pursue solo work, leading to Phil Van Duyne taking over guitar duties for the 1989 album Winter, which marked the end of SWA's output. Juncosa, however, did issue her own solo albums during 1988 and 1989.
