Sye

Formed in 1981, the Canadian hard rock outfit Sye originated when Bernie Carlos—born in the Philippines and handling vocals plus guitar—assembled the project in Toronto. There he linked up with fellow Philippines native Gunner San Augustin on bass. After signing to Metal Blade Records, the pair issued their first album, Turn On The Night, in 1985. Although session player Ray Cincinnato handled drums for the recording, Steve Ferguson came aboard as the permanent drummer once the sessions concluded. While Sye’s guitar work stood out for its strength, the vocals remained a noticeable weakness throughout. Four years passed before any second release materialized, by which point the band had largely faded from view.
