Sylvie Proulx, a guitarist from Canada, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Ottawa before completing a master's program at the University of Toronto. Her main instructors included Ed Honeywell along with Eli Kassner. Supported by funding from the Canada Council for the Arts, she pursued further studies under David Russell while in England. She has appeared as a solo performer throughout North America as well as Europe. In addition, she has joined forces for chamber and cross-genre works alongside Alan Maitland, Jeri Brown, Malcolm Callaway, Gwen Noah, John Mills, and the Penderecki String Quartet. Residing in St. John's, Newfoundland, Proulx instructs guitar students at Memorial University's School of Music. She actively champions contemporary compositions and has premiered numerous works throughout Canada. On the Centaur Records label, her solo releases comprise Sirocco, featuring Latin American pieces for guitar, and Les Tendres Plaintes, which presents transcriptions of Rameau. Skylark issued her recording of Astor Piazzolla's music titled Tango Nuevo.
