T_A_M

Operating under the alias T_A_M, Thomas Emslie produces electronic music from his base in Aberdeen, Scotland. Grime shapes the sharp, angular bass tones that dominate his sound, though the tracks themselves carry a stronger club-oriented drive. Certain releases lean playful, the single “Watty” among them, while others adopt a more sullen and reflective tone. His earliest material surfaced digitally during 2013. The juke/jungle hybrid “Chim Richalds”/“Power Cologne,” co-produced with Zubuntu, came out on the Japanese netlabel Sabacan Records, and “Midgar”/“Roze” followed shortly afterward on Tuff Wax. T_A_M’s debut EP, Tail Snap, first appeared in digital form near the close of 2013 before Apothecary Compositions issued it on cassette in early 2014. Two further digital EPs arrived in 2015: the club-centered Damned If I Do on Tuff Wax and the more melancholy There All Is Aching, which he released himself. Early the next year, U.K. dance label Coyote Records put out the club cut “Watty,” after which Apothecary Compositions issued his first full-length, the more personal and experimental In Tandem.
