Born Keiko Takeda, the Japanese experimental composer and instrumentalist Takeda pursued studies in piano and composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston ahead of issuing her debut album, Spirits, in 1992. Her hybrid approach merges laid-back and mellow melodies with soothing yet sophisticated textures, leading to the 1995 follow-up Poemas, a Brazilian jazz-inflected set primarily shaped by legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim.
