Biography
A husband-and-wife team of Roger and Debra Talley joined by their daughter Lauren, the Talley Trio concentrates on contemporary gospel. Roger first performed during the 1970s with the Hoppers, while Debra appeared with the Songmasters Quartet. Following their 1978 marriage, Debra entered the Hoppers alongside Roger, and in 1984 the couple launched the Talleys together with Roger’s brother Kirk. That lineup endured for almost ten years before dissolving in 1993, when Roger and Debra chose to devote greater attention to their daughter. By the late 1990s, however, Lauren’s own desire to sing led her parents to unite with her and create the Talley Trio. The newly formed ensemble promptly issued recordings, among them 1998’s So Thankful, 1999’s Life Story, and 2000’s Testament, whose three Top Five hits included the chart-topping single “Searchin’,” also nominated for SGMA Song of the Year. Beyond the studio, the Talley Trio maintains an annual touring schedule that has included appearances on the Gaither Homecoming Tour, at Praise Gathering and FamilyFest, and aboard cruises visiting Alaska, the Bahamas, the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, Cozumel, and the Grand Cayman Islands. In 2001 the group issued The Talley Reunion: Live After Eight Years, which marked Kirk’s return to the stage with the family.
