Biography
Tamarama takes its name from a settlement along Australia’s southeastern coast. The group shapes its coastal folk-pop in the spirit of Jack Johnson, G. Love & Special Sauce, and fellow exponents of acoustic guitars paired with laid-back, off-the-cuff vocals. After the band formed, founding members Jay G. Lyon and Nick "Pottsy" Potts moved to New York City, where Lyon’s developing relationship with reality TV star Whitney Port—known from the MTV series The Hills and The City—raised Tamarama’s visibility in late 2008.
