Born in Tennessee in 1966, fiddler Tammy Rogers grew up in Irving, Texas. Classical training occupied her teenage years, though she regularly joined her family for appearances at bluegrass festivals. Following college graduation she entered Patty Loveless’ backing band, then moved on to a similar role supporting Trisha Yearwood. After exiting Yearwood’s circle Rogers established herself as a busy session musician, playing on Kieran Kane’s last Atlantic Records album and joining him for the ensuing tour. When Atlantic dropped Kane he started his own imprint, Dead Reckoning, and soon signed Rogers as one of its first artists. Her 1995 debut, In the Red, paired her with noted session drummer Don Heffington on an all-instrumental collaboration; the self-titled 1996 follow-up showcased her songwriting and vocals.
