Tracking the assorted endeavors of Arish Ahmad Khan quickly grows confusing, much like the shifting aliases under which he performs, among them Blacksnake and King Khan. Born in Canada to Indian parents, he is hardly a conventional figure, having somehow assumed leadership of a scrappy garage-soul group based in Germany whose visual style and sound evoke the camp sensibility of a John Waters film. Across releases and shows credited to the King Khan & BBQ Show, the Black Lips, the Almighty Defenders, King Khan & the Shrines, and still other guises, he has maintained a steady output of fiery, off-kilter rockabilly soul. In 2010 he joined forces with Bloodshot Bill, recording together as the Tandoori Knights, to deliver the gloriously chaotic Curry Up album on Norton Records.
