Estonian outfit Tartu Popi Ja Roki Instituut produces intricate, arty pop that retains a propulsive rock drive while drawing on vintage touchstones such as 1960s psych pop and 1970s Krautrock. The large collective, whose Estonian name means the Tartu Pop and Rock Institute, came together around 2004 and includes Pille Vilgota on guitar, Kristiina Reidolf handling vocals and keyboards, Kaspar Aus on keyboards, Liina Leemet on vocals, Lauri Randveer on bass, Siim Randveer on guitar, and Lauri Kulpsoo on drums. After issuing several EPs and singles, the band delivered its first full-length effort, Madis's Stamp Collection, in 2006. The follow-up, Biidermeier-Psühhedeelia, appeared on Seksound in 2012. An English-language counterpart titled Biedermeier-Psychedelia was prepared for the American imprint Minty Fresh and issued in 2013. Tartu Popi Ja Roki Instituut resurfaced in 2015 with its third album, Marienbad.
