Biography
Hailing from Long Island, the capable R&B and Urban Contemporary singer Tata Vega relocated to Los Angeles during the 1970s before inking a deal with Motown in 1976. Three albums followed on that imprint in the closing years of the decade, each one boasting respectable production yet none managing even modest chart traction. She next lent backing vocals to Carl Anderson and Lou Rawls, then pivoted toward gospel in the 1980s. Lead vocals on Andre Crouch’s 1987 single “Oh, It Is Jesus” marked one highlight of that period. After an extended stretch as a session vocalist, Vega resurfaced in 1998 with the album Now I See.
