Tati Roman, the flamenco sensation born in Granada in 1991, launched her professional singing and performing career by the age of six. Her first public appearance took place during El Dia de Andalucia at El Teatro Manuel de Falla de Granada. Presented with only guitar accompaniment, that occasion revealed the voice poised to seize the flamenco world a decade later. In her early teens the budding performer connected with flamenco great Parrita, who subsequently became her mentor and patron. Parrita presented Roman to international listeners during his concert at Barcelona’s Palau de la Musica, an event honoring the recently deceased Antonio Humanes. The singer’s debut album, Como la Mar y la Arena, appeared in June 2006 and contained ten songs written and produced by her patron Parrita. Although global recognition remained ahead, repeated engagements at major venues built Roman’s reputation as an artist to watch inside her native Spain. Strong national-chart performance by Como la Mar augured well for the young Granadina.
