Biography
Emerging in the opening years of the 1990s, the American ensemble rapidly earned wide recognition across global music circuits. Taumbú, born Hal Noble Ector in 1944 in Los Angeles, California, brought the group together. While performance remains his chief pursuit, the musician also handles production of his own recordings, offers instruction, and fabricates instruments including bambu flutes and chekeres. Alongside his leadership of the ensemble, Taumbú has appeared on recordings with Phil Ranelin, Horace Tapscott, and Randy Tico. A proficient visual artist as well, he markets his paintings through the organization’s website.
