Biography
Energetic N.Y.C. rockers Team USA stir supple new wave, classic power pop, and good-time '60s rock into their quirky pop blend. Their sound features an aggressive guitar attack paired with oddball lead vocals that echo Television's Tom Verlaine and Talking Heads' David Byrne.
Originally hailing from St. Louis, art-school students Jackie Gendel, Mike Reddy, and John Mathias teamed with drummer Andy O'Neill in fall 1995 to launch local performances. The band later moved to New York City, where they played hip downtown clubs and issued the four-song EP When Does the Weekend? late in 2000. Producer/engineer Peter Keusch (Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony) assisted on that recording. Team USA tracked the dozen songs for their spring 2002 album Listen to the Night inside a Brooklyn studio across just one week.
