Ted Kooshian, a pianist known for his adaptability, has collaborated with performers spanning countless musical styles over the course of his career. When leading his own projects, Kooshian gravitates toward straight-ahead jazz. Born in San Jose, CA, he first took up the piano during elementary school and shifted into jazz studies once he reached junior high. Beginning in 1979, he pursued formal music training at San Jose State College, later securing positions playing piano aboard cruise ships prior to relocating to New York City in 1987. Thereafter he became a sought-after session player, contributing to Broadway pit orchestras and supporting acts including Chuck Berry, Sarah Brightman, and Blood, Sweat & Tears. His independently produced first solo album, Clockwork, appeared in 2004, with the follow-up Ted Kooshian's Standard Orbit Quartet arriving in 2008. Additional credits include numerous sideman appearances on other releases, and he maintains ongoing membership in the Ed Palermo Big Band.
